This review presents a detailed summary of the latest technologies used in flywheel energy storage systems (FESS). paper covers types and employed within FESS, range materials production reasons for use these materials. Furthermore, this provides an overview uses covering vehicles transport industry, grid leveling power domestic industrial electricity providers, their motorsport, applications space, satellites, spacecraft. Different machines are also discussed. serves to analyse which implementations reduce cost permanent magnet synchronous machines. As well as this, further investigations need be carried out determine ideal temperature operation. Induction currently stoutly designed with lower manufacturing cost, making them unsuitable high-speed operations. Brushless direct current machines, Homolar should considered future research activities improve performance system. An active magnetic bearing can alongside mechanical bearings control systems’ complications, thereby entire system cost-effective.
